COMP 6660 · Enterprise Cybersecurity Unit 5 Learning Outcomes

The authoritative learning outcomes for Unit 5 — Enterprise Systems and Infrastructure Security — together with their lesson coverage, module mapping, and assessment alignment.

Outcomes: 3 Lessons: 8 Module outcomes: M2.8–M2.10

01 Unit learning outcomes

Upon completion of Unit 5, students will be able to:

U5.1 — Secure infrastructure

  • Secure enterprise infrastructures across operating systems, endpoints, applications, and databases.
  • Apply hardening, patch management, and least-privilege principles consistently.

U5.2 — Cloud and platform security

  • Evaluate cloud and platform security, including shared responsibility, identity, and misconfiguration risk.
  • Assess container, virtualisation, mobile, and IoT security controls.

U5.3 — Emerging infrastructure threats

  • Analyse emerging infrastructure threats, including those affecting critical infrastructure.
  • Recommend controls appropriate to OT/IT convergence and regulated environments.

How to read these outcomes

The outcomes above are the authoritative statements for Unit 5. They are verified by Forum 5, Assignment 2, and Parts B and C of the final examination.

06 Progression

  1. U5.1 — Compute stack Applied in Module 3 incident-response and resilience discussions; Part B of the final examination.
  2. U5.2 — Cloud and platform security Applied in Assignment 2 (cloud-migration architecture) and in Module 3 governance case study.
  3. U5.3 — Emerging infrastructure threats Extended in Module 3, Lesson 6.10 (emerging trends); Part B of the final examination.
Do I need hands-on experience with cloud platforms or containers?

No. The unit examines cloud and container security from an evaluation perspective. You are not required to deploy workloads, configure orchestrators, or administer cloud accounts. The emphasis is on understanding where risk sits in each platform and how to recommend controls that address it.

How does Unit 5 relate to Zero Trust?

Zero Trust was introduced in Module 1, Lesson 2.7, and its network architecture was addressed in Unit 4. Unit 5 shows where Zero Trust is most needed: cloud environments, container platforms, and IoT estates, where the traditional perimeter is absent and identity becomes the primary control plane.

Where can I find the module-level outcomes?

Module outcomes are published on the Module 2 learning outcomes page.
