Course Overview

The enterprise security problem, end to end

COMP 6660: Enterprise Cybersecurity examines the technologies, architectures, governance frameworks, risk-management methodologies, and operational practices used to secure modern enterprise environments. Students explore cybersecurity from technical, managerial, strategic, and research perspectives.

Topics include enterprise security architecture, cryptography, identity and access management, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, cloud and infrastructure security, cybersecurity governance, risk management, compliance, security operations, incident response, business continuity, and emerging cybersecurity challenges.

Students develop both practical and scholarly competencies through critical analysis, case studies, independent research, and applied cybersecurity design activities.

Who this course is for

Graduate students in computing and information systems who intend to lead, design, audit, or research enterprise security programmes — not just operate security tools.

Course Learning Outcomes

What you will be able to do

Nine course learning outcomes (CLOs) frame every unit, lesson, discussion, and assessment in COMP 6660.

Foundations & Analysis

  • CLO1 — Define the scope, objectives, principles, and strategic importance of enterprise cybersecurity.
  • CLO2 — Analyse cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, risks, and attack vectors affecting enterprise environments.
  • CLO3 — Evaluate and apply cryptographic, authentication, authorization, and access-control technologies.

Design & Application

  • CLO4 — Design and assess enterprise cybersecurity architectures and controls.
  • CLO5 — Apply cybersecurity principles to secure enterprise systems, networks, cloud environments, and digital services.
  • CLO6 — Develop cybersecurity governance, risk-management, compliance, and policy frameworks.

Resilience & Scholarship

  • CLO7 — Evaluate incident response, business continuity, disaster recovery, and cyber-resilience strategies.
  • CLO8 — Assess emerging cybersecurity technologies, trends, and challenges.
  • CLO9 — Conduct scholarly research and communicate cybersecurity findings effectively.

Curriculum

Course structure

Three modules and six units progress from foundations and core technologies, through threats and enterprise architecture, to governance, operations, and resilience.

Getting Started

How each unit works

Every unit follows the same rhythm, so you always know what to do next.

  1. Read the unit overview

Orient yourself with the unit learning outcomes, lesson list, resources, and the discussion prompt.

  2. Work through the lessons

Each lesson combines readings, core concepts, worked examples, and applied activities.

  3. Join the discussion forum

Post a substantive contribution and respond meaningfully to at least two classmates.

  4. Complete the assessment

Apply the unit's concepts to a research topic and a set of technical problems.

Assessment

How you will be graded

Three research-driven assignments, structured online participation, and a comprehensive final examination. Each assignment pairs a scholarly research topic with applied technical problems.
