COMP 6660 · Enterprise Cybersecurity Unit 2 Learning Outcomes
The authoritative learning outcomes for Unit 2 — Core Cybersecurity Technologies and Access Control — together with their lesson coverage, module mapping, and assessment alignment.
01 Unit learning outcomes
Upon completion of Unit 2, students will be able to:
U2.1 — Cryptographic principles
- Explain core cryptographic principles and the security properties cryptographic systems must satisfy.
- Evaluate cryptographic applications and identify common failure modes.
U2.2 — Authentication technologies
- Evaluate authentication technologies, including MFA and single sign-on.
- Assess their effectiveness against credential-based attacks.
U2.3 — Access-control design
- Compare access-control models, including RBAC and ABAC.
- Design access-control solutions appropriate to enterprise context.
U2.4 — Identity management
- Apply identity-management approaches, including lifecycle and federation.
- Explain identity governance and its relationship to access control.
How to read these outcomes
The outcomes above are the authoritative statements for Unit 2. They are drawn from the course development plan and are verified by Forum 2, Assignment 1, and Part B of the final examination. Their relationship to the module outcomes and course learning outcomes appears in Sections 03 and 04 below.

06 Progression
- U2.1 — Cryptography Applied in Module 2, Units 4 and 5, where cryptographic controls are evaluated in network, cloud, and platform contexts.
- U2.2–U2.3 — Authentication and access control Extended in Module 2, Unit 4 (network access control) and Unit 5 (cloud identity).
- U2.4 — Identity management and Zero Trust Zero Trust is revisited in Assignment 1, applied in Module 2, and integrated in Assignment 3 in Module 3.
Are these outcomes examinable?
Yes. All four Unit 2 outcomes are examinable, primarily in Part B of the final examination (technical analysis) and, for U2.4, in Part C where Zero Trust frequently appears.
How heavily is Zero Trust weighted?
Zero Trust is one of the course's recurring research themes. It is the research focus of Assignment 1, a key architectural concept in Module 2, and an explicit integration point in Assignment 3. U2.4 should be treated as one of the most important outcomes in the course.
Where can I find the module-level outcomes?
Module outcomes are published on the Module 1 learning outcomes page.
