Potential Barriers
Identify the barriers most likely to affect you, and pair each with a concrete mitigation.
1. Primary barrier
Which category of barrier is most likely to affect you?
Time — workload, caregiving, overcommitment
Environmental — distractions, internet, space
Health — illness, fatigue, mental health
Life events — moves, job changes, family emergencies
Mindset — perfectionism, fear of failure, motivation dips
2. Time mitigation
If a workload spike hits during a critical study week, what will you do first?
Contact my tutor within two days and adjust my plan
Use my buffer block
Prioritise the nearest deadline and defer other reading
Ignore it and hope it resolves
3. Environment mitigation
If your internet fails during a critical study block, what will you do?
Use a phone hotspot
Relocate to a library or public space
Switch to offline study (readings, notes)
Skip the block
4. Health mitigation
If you become ill for more than three days, what will you do?
Email my tutor, adjust my weekly plan, prioritise the next deadline
Register with Accessibility Services if the condition is ongoing
Push through and try to catch up all at once
Ignore it
5. Mindset mitigation
If you notice yourself procrastinating heavily on a writing task, what will you do?
Do a two-minute start and a 25-minute Pomodoro
Contact the Write Site for feedback early
Set an even bigger goal
Wait until I feel motivated
6. Escalation
If you fall more than two weeks behind, what will you do?
Contact my tutor immediately to discuss options
Speak with an academic advisor if the course pace is wrong
Reach out to Counselling if stress is a factor
Quit the course without contacting anyone
