Course Description

This course provides advanced study of modern web‑based systems development using a comprehensive full‑stack perspective. Students learn how contemporary web applications are designed, developed, secured, deployed, monitored, and maintained using industry‑standard technologies and practices.

The course follows a systems‑oriented approach, beginning with foundational web architectures and progressing through frontend development, data management, backend engineering, system design, DevOps, cloud deployment, performance optimization, testing, monitoring, and emerging technologies.

Students complete hands‑on laboratories, programming exercises, homework assignments, mini‑projects, case studies, module projects, examinations, and a comprehensive capstone project culminating in a production‑ready web application.

OER Textbook: Advanced Technologies for Full-Stack Web Application Development, developed specifically for this revision of COMP 466, incorporates modern full-stack development practices for the AI era and is available online at no cost to students.

Students are expected to have proficiency in at least one programming language, understanding of HTML/CSS, familiarity with the command line, and introductory database knowledge.

Important: All module quizzes and projects are due at the end of the corresponding week (Sunday 11:59 PM, your local time). The final exam is scheduled during the university's exam period.

Course Policies

Academic Integrity

All work must be your own. Collaboration is encouraged for discussion and problem‑solving, but each student must submit their own work. Plagiarism and cheating will result in a grade of zero for the assignment and may result in further disciplinary action.

Late Submissions

Late submissions will be accepted up to 48 hours after the deadline with a 10% penalty per day. Submissions more than 5 days late will not be accepted. Extensions may be granted for documented emergencies or illness.

Attendance & Participation

This is an asynchronous online course. Active participation in discussion forums and timely completion of all assignments is expected. Your participation grade is based on the quality and frequency of your contributions to the course community.
